Mary Herbert - British artist - b.1967
Mary is a professional artist located in west Wales, specialising in landscapes, animals, and portraits. With a profound passion for capturing the essence of nature and the unique personalities of animals and individuals, Mary's work reflects a blend of technical expertise and artistic creativity.
Granddaughter of prolific British commercial artist Stanley Herbert, Mary trained at Loughborough and Salisbury in the 1980s, showing particular interest in figure drawing, and in human and equine portraiture. Specialising in pastel painting for much of her career, she has worked as a demonstrator for Caran d’Ache pastel pencils and been a frequent contributor to The Artist Magazine on the subject of pastel techniques.
Mary has exhibited extensively in the UK and Europe, and her work is held in private collections worldwide. She continues to paint animal subjects, and her more recent work explores the Ceredigion landscape around her home in the Cambrian Mountains, now often in the medium of oil paint as well as pastel.
